When to Use
- Describing your job
- 'I work as a...' (job title). 'I work in...' (field or department). 'I work for...' (company).
- Responsibilities
- 'I'm in charge of...' 'My main responsibility is...' 'I deal with customer complaints.'
- Job changes
- 'Apply for a job,' 'get promoted,' 'hand in your notice,' 'get fired,' 'retire.'
Tip
Say 'I'm a teacher,' not 'I'm teacher' — you need the article. But say 'I work as a teacher,' not 'I work like a teacher.' 'Like' means similar to; 'as' describes the role.
