Present Perfect
Connecting past actions to the present — I have visited three countries.
Visual Explanation
Affirmative
Subject+have / has+past participle
Examples
I have lived in this city for ten years.
She has already finished the project.
We have never tried sushi.
When to Use
- Life experience
- Talk about things you have done (or not) without saying when: 'I have been to Rome twice.'
- Unfinished time periods
- When the time period is still open: 'I have seen three films this week' (the week is not over).
- Recent actions with a present result
- Something happened recently and the result matters now: 'She has lost her keys' (she still can't find them).
Tip
Use 'for' with a duration (for three years) and 'since' with a starting point (since 2021). Mixing these up is one of the most common mistakes at B1.
