Present Perfect

Connecting past actions to the present — I have visited three countries.

Visual Explanation

Affirmative

Subject+have / has+past participle

Examples

I have lived in this city for ten years.

She has already finished the project.

We have never tried sushi.

When to Use

Life experience
Talk about things you have done (or not) without saying when: 'I have been to Rome twice.'
Unfinished time periods
When the time period is still open: 'I have seen three films this week' (the week is not over).
Recent actions with a present result
Something happened recently and the result matters now: 'She has lost her keys' (she still can't find them).

Tip

Use 'for' with a duration (for three years) and 'since' with a starting point (since 2021). Mixing these up is one of the most common mistakes at B1.
