When to Use
- Basic directions
- Turn left, turn right, go straight on, go past the church, cross the bridge.
- Position words
- 'Opposite' means facing it. 'Next to' means beside it. 'Between' means in the middle of two things.
- Asking for directions
- 'Excuse me, how do I get to the station?' 'Is there a supermarket near here?'
Tip
Start with 'Excuse me' when asking a stranger for directions. It sounds much more polite than jumping straight to the question.
